Celebrating Mining Heritage
Our Young Wonders were treated to a special visit from Jim Housley, Paul Gerrard and Paul Hewitt from Northwest Miners Heritage Association as part of our National Heritage Lottery funded project: Dreams of Wonder.
The group learned so much about mining at Sutton Manor; the working day of a miner, all the different job roles, the tools and equipment needed, the camaraderie and the sense of community.
Jim was kind enough to bring a whole array of interesting artifacts including a full replica of the Sutton Manor Colliery Banner and we were even treated to a miner in full uniform.
The trio gave us a really interesting insight into what life was like for those who worked at the Sutton Manor mining site and our Young Wonders were left inspired and full of ideas to incorporate into their project.
