Young Wonders celebrate after receiving National Lottery Funding
Our Young Wonders are celebrating today after being awarded £9,500 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK, to deliver a new project with their Young Wonders.
Thanks to National Lottery Players, this funding will allow the group to create an animated film which explores the Cost-of-Living Crisis and the ongoing effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on young people. Over the year-long project the Young Wonders will share pandemic and cost of living challenges; experiences and emotions (including mental health; emotional wellbeing; social isolation and anxiety impacts) then re-tell these via film.
Fay Lamb, Chief Executive of Wonder Arts said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can work with our Young Wonders to explore topics that may be having a real effect on their wellbeing. This is a fantastic opportunity for our group to tackle serous issues and create something wonderful which can be shared with other young people in St Helens”
Young Wonders is a fun and creative group for young people in St Helens aged 7 – 11 & 12 – 17. Each year they take part in a wonderful new project while learning new skills, making new friends, building confidence and taking part in exciting, creative activities often exploring important themes and topics.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
