Artist Call Out - Project Positivity

About the Project

Wonder Arts are delighted to share that we are receiving funding from National Lottery Community Fund to deliver a new project; Project Positivity as part of our Communities of Wonder programme of activities.

We are partnering with an organisation supporting those who have fled domestic violence to work with a group of young people in Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows. During consultation, the group have told us they want to explore the themes of food waste and the environment and are interested in using a range of visual arts but prioritising painting.

The young people have decided they would like to design and create a large wall banner or banners which can be digitally printed and put up inside or outside their community food hub. The outside wall of the community hub measures approximately 15x3 meters. The banner(s) could cover all or part of this space. They are also keen to craft ornaments for their community garden such as bird boxes, weather-proof bunting and varnished painted pebbles.

This project is led by the young people, and we are looking to work with an artist to engage with the group over 6 sessions to co-create this artwork. The final design should incorporate a vibrant, positive and eco-friendly message.

Experience of youth workshop facilitation is essential and as some of the young people have had experience of domestic abuse, a trauma-informed approach is desirable but not essential.

Fee

The fee to deliver this project is £1,660; this includes planning time, workshop delivery and installation. There is a separate materials budget of up to £750 which includes printing costs of the final banner.

Timescales & Schedule

The 6 sessions will run on Mondays from 8th July – 12th August, 1-5pm with a celebration event and sharing during the final session.

Action: Please submit a written proposal in response to this commission brief. As the young people will be involved in precuring the right artist, please also submit a brief video proposal pitched at young people. This should be no more than 3 minutes. Your proposals should detail your artistic approach, outline potential content of delivery sessions and examples of your previous work. You may submit links to online portfolios to support your proposal. The deadline for the written and video proposals is noon on Friday 14th June.

Please email both the written and video submissions to emma@wonderarts.co.uk. Let us know if you have any access requirements.
